The Boomer Esiason Foundation is excited to once again be the official charitable partner of the Atlantic Cup, an annual dedicated Class 40 sailing race presented by 11th Hour Racing that kicks off in Charleston, South Carolina on May 11, 2013.
The competitors will race double-handed to New York City, where there will be a 4 to 5 day stop over, before the race restarts and competitors sprint to Newport, Rhode Island. Once in Newport, skippers will race and inshore grand prix with a maximum crew of six.
The 2013 race will showcase some of the top Class 40 sailors in the United States and world as they compete in the three leg event. The first challenge will be the longer off-shore leg, which requires skippers to navigate the challenging Cape Hatteras. The second challenge is on the sprint leg from New York to Newport, especially when competitors are faced with the choice of which direction to take around Block Island. Finally, the third challenge is for the competitors to switch their boats into an inshore mode and race with a maximum crew of six when they arrive in Newport. The combined overall winner of these three challenges will be named Atlantic Cup Champion.
