The experience of living with cystic fibrosis is markedly different today than it was decades ago. Thanks to the discovery of the CF gene, the availability of effective drug therapies and advances in technology, the 30,000 Americans who deal with the disease day in and day out are living longer and fuller lives. In a word, they are thriving.

There is a multitude of organizations working to support the cystic fibrosis community, as well as a variety of tools and information available to help people with CF not just live, but thrive.

Rimington Trophy to be Presented to Michigan’s Molk on January 14

The 2011 Rimington Trophy will be awarded January 14 to University of Michigan senior David Molk. ESPN.com recently aired a touching profile of Molk, who lost his mother to cancer when he was in eighth grade.

The Rimington Trophy was established in 2000 to honor the most outstanding center in Division I-A college football. The award, named for BEF President and former NFL center Dave Rimington, is presented each January at a gala in his home state of Nebraska.

Molk will be the second University of Michigan center to receive the Rimington Trophy. By the end of the 2011 season, Molk's offensive line ranked second in the Big Ten in rushing offense and fewest sacks allowed. He was named a First Team All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation and a First Team All-Big Ten selection by the conference's coaches.

"I am truly humbled to be the Rimington Trophy recipient. It's such an honor considering all of the great centers around the country, including the other finalists. It's an individual award, but it's a credit to our offensive line, our team and our coaching staff. I'm proud to represent the University of Michigan," Molk said.

The 12th Annual Rimington Trophy Presentation will be held Saturday, January 14, at the Rococo Theatre in Lincoln, Neb. The event also will honor Mick Tingelhoff, the former Nebraska great and Minnesota Vikings center, as the 2011 recipient of the President Gerald R. Ford Legends Award. The event's featured speaker is former NFL quarterback Jim McMahon.
